There was a section within Hall 3 titled Toys Go Green to highlight the emerging effort for sustainably produced toys. While wandering the Halls of Spielwarenmesse, periodically, you could see a manufacturer touting this effort but certainly not at a frequency to have any significant impact. Hopefully, the effort gains traction.
The Toy Business Forum included some sessions related to sustainable produced toys. This included Sharon Keilthy from Jiminy toy shop in Ireland. She went shopping for a sustainable toy for a daughter’s 4th birthday and came home with nothing. That motivated her to start a sustainable-only toy store. The striking piece of information from her presentation was how sustainability can be used as a unique advantage to set yourself apart.
